We passed thru Santiago, Chile three times on our travels. Santiago is the capitol of Chile with a population close to 7 million people. We found Santiago to be an interesting mix of old and new buildings. There are huge modern malls along with many of the fast-food places we see here in the states. Some areas seem very safe but others we were warned to keep our phones and wallets in our pockets.

The Andes mountains are quite spectacular when viewed from the city and many skiers (including from Canada) come to the nearby mountains to ski.

We walked to San Cristobal Hill to see the Virgin Mary statue on top and used the hop on /hop off tour bus to see a lot of the city.
